Carley Thomas 3rd Place Women's 4x400m Relay and 5th Place 800m Section 3 - Fresno State West Coast Relays 2021
Published by
Carley Thomas, a sophomore at Washington representing Australia, recaps the first outdoor races of her collegiate career at the Fresno State West Coast Relays at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High in Clovis, Calif. Thomas hadn't raced in 14 months, following rehabilitation from a traumatic left leg injury suffered in August. Thomas had her femoral artery severed during a tubing accident at Lake Washington, requiring significant surgical procedures to place five screws and a titanium rod more than a foot long in her leg. Thomas was on crutches for 16 weeks and didn't walk again until January. She ran 2:07.46 in the 800 in her first race back, in addition to anchoring the Huskies' 4x400 relay to a third-place finish in 3:41.67.
